ERRIGAL
Being from Co.Clare, I grew up along the Wild Atlantic Way and have a love for all things rugged and wild. So, when Moya & Gavin first contacted me to film their wedding I was already sold on the fact that it was in Donegal (a place I had always wanted to visit). Then the fact that they wanted to climb Errigal, the highest mountain in Donegal, in their wedding attire was just music to my ears!
We agreed that the Wednesday after the wedding would be the best time for the climb, the weather was extremely clear for April. It would be an early start to get the most of the sunlight. I left Clare at 6 a.m and began the long drive to Donegal!
I met Moya Gavin and Fergal the Photographer in Glenveagh National Park for a couple shoot to get us warmed up. The weather was superb and Moya & Gavin suited their environment so well, the shots we got were stunning! More of this shoot can be seen in the main Highlights video elsewhere in my portfolio.
Climbing Errigal was a lot harder than I had anticipated. The first 10% of the trek is a fairly gentle gradient through marsh but then quickly leads up to a very steep base covered in loose shale. Climbing this section took the most amount of time and effort, at least 2 hours.
Once we had reached a point close to the top we then had the difficult task of slowing the traffic of climbers coming from both sides of the Mountain so Moya & Gavin could get changed in to their dress and suit. Which they had very carefully packed and folded in to their hiking bags (Good thinking guys!).
Once this was done we were able to begin one of the most epic shoots i’ve ever had the pleasure of being apart of! This can all be seen in the linked video.
Thank you so much to Moya & Gavin for allowing me to be apart of this incredible moment!
